Dream Snap Five-Game Losing Streak with 89-78 Victory Over Seattle Storm

The Atlanta Dream looked to end their five-game losing streak, and they did just that with an 89-78 victory over the Seattle Storm at Gateway Center Arena.

Atlanta entered the game seeking redemption after a 105-90 loss to Seattle on June 27, when the Storm were led by Dominique Malonga, Flau’jae Johnson, and Awa Fam. The victory also ended a stretch in which the Dream had dropped five consecutive games.

The Dream set the tone early, taking a 22-19 lead after the first quarter before extending their advantage to 44-38 at halftime. Atlanta maintained control throughout the second half, outscoring Seattle 24-21 in the third quarter before closing out the game with a 21-19 edge in the fourth to secure the 89-78 win.

Allisha Gray led the Dream with 22 points while adding three rebounds and five assists. Rhyne Howard finished with 19 points, knocking down four three-pointers while contributing four rebounds, two assists, four steals, and two blocked shots.

Angel Reese recorded another double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds while adding two assists and two steals. Jordin Canada controlled the offense with 14 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists, finishing just one rebound and two assists shy of a triple-double. Naz Hillmon added seven points, while Madina Okot contributed five points and six rebounds, including four offensive boards. Isobel Borlase chipped in four points off the bench.

Atlanta’s defense played a major role in the victory by forcing 23 Seattle turnovers, which the Dream converted into 28 points. The Storm also struggled from beyond the arc, making just 3-of-20 (15%) from three-point range.

Natisha Hiedeman led Seattle with 20 points. Malonga added 15 points and nine rebounds, while Johnson finished with 14 points and five assists.

A key moment came during the game when Reese was assessed her seventh technical foul of the season following a controversial call. Under WNBA rules, a player’s eighth technical foul results in a $1,500 fine and an automatic one-game suspension, leaving Reese one technical away from serving a one-game suspension.

There was also concern late in the fourth quarter when Reese appeared to turn her ankle. Following the game, she was seen favoring it while walking toward the tunnel. No update on her status was immediately available.

The win improved Atlanta to 13-9 on the season while snapping its five-game losing streak. The Dream will return to Gateway Center Arena on July 11 to host the Portland Fire as they look to build on the momentum from the victory over Seattle.
