Gladiators Hold Off Icemen Late to Secure 2–1 Bounce-Back Win

The Atlanta Gladiators returned home Saturday night looking to reset after a 4–1 loss to the Jacksonville Icemen just one day earlier. The two teams met earlier this week on March 18, when Atlanta secured a 2–0 win on home ice. With Saturday’s matchup marking the 11th meeting of the season, the Gladiators entered the night holding a 6–4 edge in the series.

Rookie goaltender TJ Semptimphelter got the start in net for Atlanta, and the Gladiators opened the game with clear intent. From the first puck drop, they played with urgency, setting the tone defensively while limiting Jacksonville’s opportunities. Atlanta held the Icemen to just five shots on goal in the opening period, while generating 11 shots of their own in a strong two-way effort.

The Gladiators carried that momentum into the second period and broke through early. Cody Sylvester found the back of the net at the 2:13 mark to give Atlanta a 1–0 lead. The penalty kill unit continued to be a factor as well, successfully shutting down Jacksonville’s second power play opportunity of the night. The Icemen, who have struggled on the man advantage this season at just 14.1 percent, were unable to capitalize once again.

Atlanta had a power play opportunity of its own midway through the period but could not convert. Still, the pressure paid off later in the frame. Jack O’Brien extended the Gladiators’ lead to 2–0 with a goal at the 15:04 mark, giving Atlanta a firm advantage heading into the final period.

In the third period, Jacksonville finally broke through. Will Hillman scored at the 8:33 mark to cut the deficit to 2–1 and shift some momentum in the Icemen’s favor. The Gladiators had another opportunity on the power play later in the period, but came up empty for the fourth time on the night.

Despite that, Atlanta remained composed down the stretch. Behind a strong defensive effort and steady goaltending, the Gladiators were able to close out the game and secure a 2–1 win.
