Grace Slaughter’s name sits a little higher in the Mizzou record book after Friday night. The senior guard moved into 11th place on the program’s all-time scoring list with a 23-point performance in the Tigers’ 73-50 win over Little Rock at the Jack Stephens Center.
Slaughter passed Sandie Prophete, who starred for Mizzou from 1985 to 1989, and she did it in the kind of game that has defined her career, setting the tone from the opening possession. She drove through the lane for the Tigers’ first basket, answered Little Rock with a jumper moments later, and stayed aggressive all night on the way to 23 points and seven rebounds.
Every point she scores now in her senior season moves her further up a list made up of some of the best players in Mizzou history. She’ll have her next chance to add to it at home Monday at 11 a.m. at Mizzou Arena, when the Tigers host Tennessee Tech in their annual field trip day game in front of students from Columbia Public Schools and the surrounding districts.
