The Atlanta Gladiators received a major lift this week with the return of two critical pieces on both ends of the ice. Goaltender Ethan Haider and defenseman Chad Nychuk have been reassigned to Atlanta from the Milwaukee Admirals, strengthening a roster already off to a strong start.
Ethan Haider made the most of his brief time in the AHL. Recalled on November 9, he stepped into his first AHL start with confidence, delivering a 22 save performance in a 3 to 1 win over the Texas Stars. It was an impressive milestone for the Maple Grove native, who has been one of Atlanta’s most reliable players since training camp. In five games with the Gladiators this season, Haider holds a 4 and 1 record with a 2.17 goals against average and a .932 save percentage.
On the blue line, Chad Nychuk continues to prove why he has been one of the best defensemen in the ECHL this season. After his call up to Milwaukee, Nychuk logged two shots on goal and finished with an even rating in the Admirals 3 to 1 win over Texas. His return is a major advantage for Atlanta. At 6’1” and 195 pounds, Nychuk brings steady offense and dependable defensive play. Through ten games with the Gladiators, he has recorded two goals and eight assists and leads the team in plus minus at plus eight. He ranks among the league’s top defensemen, sitting third in points and assists, and is one of only two defensemen in the ECHL to score a shorthanded goal this season.
The timing could not be better as Atlanta prepares for Glads Fight Cancer Night this Saturday at Gas South Arena. The Gladiators will wear specialty jerseys honoring those currently battling cancer and remembering loved ones lost to the disease. Fans are encouraged to pack the arena and be part of a night that carries powerful meaning for the community.
