The third meeting of the season between the Atlanta Vibe and the Omaha Supernovas brought intensity to the Georgia State Convocation Center Thursday night. Atlanta entered the match having won the first two meetings between the clubs this season, but Omaha responded with a 3–1 victory in front of a lively home crowd.
Atlanta looked poised to extend that streak early.
The Vibe controlled much of the opening set, moving with rhythm and confidence as they built a late advantage. With the score sitting at 24–22, Atlanta stood just one point away from closing the set.
But momentum shifted quickly.
Omaha strung together three straight points to flip the scoreline. A block error from Pia Timmer gave the Supernovas the lead at 25–24, and moments later Omaha completed the comeback to take the set 26–24.
The second set proved even more challenging for Atlanta.
After the score was tied 9–9, the Vibe struggled to regain their offensive flow. Omaha capitalized, building separation with a steady run of points. When the Supernovas pushed the lead to 17–13, they followed with five unanswered points that effectively sealed the set. Atlanta managed just two more points before Omaha closed it out 25–15.
Facing a two set deficit, the Vibe found life in the third.
Outside hitter Leah Edmond sparked Atlanta’s response with a strong all around effort, recording five digs, three kills, and a block in the set. The Vibe controlled the pace and flipped the script late, finishing on a five point run to win the set 25–15 and keep the match alive.
The fourth set carried the emotion of a team fighting to extend the night.
Aiko Jones played with visible intensity, bringing energy and urgency as Atlanta tried to claw its way back into the match. After the game, Jones described the emotions felt on the court.
“I think it was passion and frustration,” she said.
Atlanta trailed 22–15 late in the set but refused to fold, cutting the deficit to 22–18 and forcing Omaha to earn the final points. The Supernovas ultimately closed the door, sealing the match victory.
Even in defeat, the atmosphere inside the arena told its own story.
Nearly 3,000 fans filled the Convocation Center, creating one of the most energetic home environments of the season. Atlanta native and middle blocker Phoebe Awoleye acknowledged how much that support meant to the team.
“Just the energy the entire night, whether we were up or down, was incredible and we’re so grateful,” Awoleye said.
The Vibe will return to the court Saturday at the Georgia State Convocation Center for a 404 Day matchup against the Orlando Valkyries.
