Stanford and Miami women’s basketball teams started the action in the 2026 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament with a first-round matchup at Gas South Arena. Stanford entered the game with strong momentum after closing the regular season with an 85–50 victory over the Clemson Tigers women’s basketball, while Miami came into the tournament looking to bounce back after a 79–49 loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets women’s basketball in its regular-season finale.
Miami went on a fast start in the first quarter going a 13-2 run to end the first quarter. Gal Riviv, who finished the game with 20 points, led the team in scoring to jumpstart the Hurricanes to a 19-10 first quarter lead. However, Stanford fought their way back through the leadership of Courtney Ogden and Hailee Swain bringing the Cardinals to a 39-37 halftime lead.
Miami responded in the third quarter restabling control on both Miami responded in the third quarter by re-establishing control on both ends of the floor. The Hurricanes found success attacking the paint, led by Ra Shaya Kyle with 24 points and 11 rebounds, whose interior efficiency inside helped Miami regain momentum and shift the pace of the game. Miami’s defense also tightened, forcing key Stanford turnovers and limiting second-chance opportunities as the Hurricanes regained the lead heading into the final period.
In the fourth quarter, Stanford attempted to mount another comeback behind Ogden and Swain. Ogden, who finished the game with 22 points and 6 rebounds, scored the game tying basket to take the game to overtime. However, Miami maintained its composure down the stretch. Raviv continued to orchestrate the offense while Kyle controlled the boards, helping the Hurricanes secure key possessions in the closing minutes. Miami ultimately held off Stanford’s late push to advance in the tournament with a hard-fought victory.
Miami will face Norte Dame in the second round Thursday at 1:30pm. Norte Dame has an automatic bid in the second round due as they finished the season 12-6 in conference play.
