Gladiators Close Out Three-Game Series With Gritty 3–2 Win

After splitting the first two games of the series, the Atlanta Gladiators and Jacksonville Icemen closed out their three-game, three-night stretch at Gas South Arena, and they did it in front of a packed crowd celebrating Max’s Holiday Party. Fans were greeted with Gladiator-themed ornaments, and the team hit the ice in festive holiday jerseys.

Atlanta wasted no time setting the tone. Just 45 seconds into the opening period, veteran forward Cody Sylvester buried the first goal of the night off clean setups from Ryan Nolan and Alex Young. Jacksonville answered at the 6:00 mark when Matteo Costantini evened the score at 1–1.

From there, the period played out evenly, with both teams trading chances and finishing the frame with 13 shots on goal each. The period ended tied 1-1.

The second period opened with Atlanta once again taking control. At the 5:13 mark, Chad Nychuk pushed the Gladiators back in front, finishing a sequence set up by Anthony Firriolo and Joey Cipollone to make it 2–1.

Tension rose midway through the frame when Conroy and Jacksonville’s Kolby Johnson dropped the gloves, each earning five minutes for fighting. Johnson received an additional two minutes for removing his helmet, giving Atlanta a power play opportunity the team couldn’t convert.

Both sides continued trading chances, with the Gladiators reaching 21 shots on goal and the Icemen close behind at 20. Atlanta held a 2–1 advantage heading into the second intermission.

The final period opened with another key opportunity for Atlanta. At the 5:37 mark, Jacksonville’s Christopher Brown was called for tripping, sending the Gladiators to the power play. This time, they cashed in. Isak Walther finished a sharp setup from Cody Sylvester and Louis Boudon to extend the lead to 3–1.

The intensity never faded as both teams pushed through the final frame, each battling to take the decisive game of the series. Jacksonville pulled closer at 16:32 when Garrett Van Wyhe scored off feeds from Bennett MacArthur and Patrick Bajkov, tightening the score to 3–2.

With under a minute remaining, the Gladiators held strong, closing out a gritty, hard-fought three-game series with a 3–2 win.

Atlanta now heads out on a three-game road swing in Utah before returning to Gas South Arena on December 19 for Marvel Super Hero Night, where they’ll once again take on the Jacksonville Icemen.
