Atlanta Dream Make Franchise History in Dominant Win Over Los Angeles Sparks

The Atlanta Dream delivered one of the most impressive offensive performances in franchise history Thursday night, overwhelming the Los Angeles Sparks 124-88 at Crypto.com Arena on August 20.

Atlanta erupted for 34 points in the opening quarter and never looked back, taking a 62-41 lead into halftime before adding another 62 points over the final two quarters. The victory improved the Dream to 23-13, while Los Angeles fell to 12-24.

The 124 points marked a new franchise record for Atlanta, which also set a franchise record with 35 assists and 46 made field goals.

The Dream shot 63.9% from the field, a season high and the second-highest field-goal percentage in franchise history. Atlanta also connected on a season-high 16 three-pointers while shooting 61.5% from beyond the arc.

The offensive production came from throughout the roster. Atlanta scored 42 bench points and 56 points in the paint, while every available player on the roster found the scoring column.

Angel Reese continued to add to an already historic season. Reese finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and three steals while shooting a perfect 9-for-9 from the field, including 2-for-2 from three-point range.

Her nine made field goals without a miss established an Atlanta Dream franchise record for most field goals made without a miss. Reese also set the WNBA single-season record for offensive rebounds with 173.

Reese became the first player in WNBA history to record 15 points, five rebounds and five assists while shooting 100% from the field in a first half. The performance also gave Reese her 25th double-double of the season, currently leading the league in that category. It was her second consecutive game with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Rhyne Howard led all Dream scorers with 26 points, adding three rebounds, five assists and three steals. Howard recorded her 19th game of the season with at least three steals and the 21st 25-point game of her career.

Naz Hillmon added 14 points, five rebounds, three assists, a steal and a career-high four blocks, while Allisha Gray finished with 13 points, one rebound, two assists and a steal.

Madina Okot contributed 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Jordin Canada controlled the offense with nine points, five rebounds, 11 assists and two steals. The 11-assist performance marked her eighth game this season with at least 10 assists.

Canada also reached another career milestone, becoming one of 15 players in WNBA history to record at least 1,400 career assists and 400 steals. She became the second-fastest player to reach those marks and owns the second-best assist-to-turnover ratio among those 15 players.

Atlanta opened the game with Canada, Gray, Howard, Hillmon and Reese. The starting five improved to 23-8 when playing together, continuing to establish itself as one of the Dream’s most successful combinations this season.

Atlanta’s latest victory also extended the franchise’s all-time record against Los Angeles to 27-20, including a 12-12 record on the road.

The Dream’s 124-point explosion was more than just another win in the standings. It was a record-setting night that showcased Atlanta’s depth, efficiency and ability to generate offense from every part of the lineup.

With every available player contributing and multiple players reaching historic milestones, Atlanta left Los Angeles with a dominant Game 36 performance and another chapter in franchise history.
