Georgia State football concluded its spring drills with a competitive Blue-White Spring Game at Center Parc Stadium, where the Blue Team edged out the White Team with a 21-14 victory, highlighting a strong defensive display and key offensive plays to close out the spring season.
The matchup, which served as the climax to fifteen spring practices, saw both squads battle to a standstill for most of the evening, showcasing the depth and improvements made by the Panthers over the past month.
Quarterbacks Battle for Position
The quarterback competition was a central focus as several signal-callers competed for the starting role:
Christian Veilleux: The veteran quarterback led multiple scoring drives for the Blue Team, showing the poise expected of a returning senior.
PJ Hatter: The Texas State transfer distributed the ball effectively to various targets, contributing to the offensive rhythm throughout the scrimmage.
TJ Stanley: The freshman signal-caller also saw significant reps, showcasing his potential as a future leader for the Panthers.
Receivers Shine in Offensive Display
The receiving corps displayed a mix of reliable veterans and emerging talent:
Leo Blackburn: The Georgia Tech transfer was a frequent target, using his 6’4″ frame to create mismatches in the secondary.
DJ Riles: Riles provided a consistent spark for the Blue Team’s offense, securing several key first-down catches.
Javon Robinson: A consistent threat in the passing game, Robinson helped keep the offense moving throughout the evening.
Derrick Avery Jr.: The true freshman showed flashes of his four-star potential, contributing to the aerial attack.
In a tightly contested scrimmage, the Blue squad managed to gain the upper hand late in the game. While the game was focused on evaluating younger talent and team chemistry, the atmosphere felt like a regular-season night at Center Parc Stadium. The Blue offense produced just enough scoring drives, balanced by a defense that came up with timely stops in the second half.
Looking Ahead
With the conclusion of the Blue-White game, Georgia State now moves into the summer offseason training program. The Panthers will open their regular season at Center Parc Credit Union Stadium against North Carolina A&T on September 5.
