Alabama A&M Survives Texas Southern in Overtime Thriller, 85–74

Koron Davis drilled a go-ahead three-pointer to open overtime and never looked back, as the Alabama A&M Bulldogs outlasted the Texas Southern Tigers 85–74 in an overtime classic to punch their ticket to the SWAC Semifinals.

Texas Southern controlled the first half behind sharp perimeter shooting and relentless second-chance opportunities. Duane Posey ignited the crowd with a thunderous fast-break dunk, Jaylen Wysinger drained a corner three, and Bryce Roberts knocked down a late triple to give the Tigers a 31–27 halftime cushion.

Alabama A&M came out of the locker room with a different sense of urgency. Davis opened the second half with a three-pointer to trim the deficit to one, and Bilal Abdur-Rahman — the Bulldogs’ most consistent offensive weapon all night — kept the pressure on throughout with pull-up jumpers, driving layups, and timely scoring from the arc.

The moment that changed everything came with just over eight minutes left in regulation. Kintavious Dozier knocked down a triple, Davis followed from deep, and suddenly the Bulldogs had erased a seven-point hole to tie the game at 51–51. From there, neither team could separate. The two squads traded blows all the way down the stretch until P.J. Eason’s free throws gave Alabama A&M a brief lead in the final minute, only for Alex Anderson to split a pair at the other end and send it to overtime, 66–66.

Overtime belonged to the Bulldogs.

Davis opened the extra period with a cold-blooded three and never flinched. James Flippin added a free throw and a crafty hook shot in the paint to stretch the lead to six. Texas Southern’s Zytarious Mortle battled inside to keep the Tigers within range, but Alabama A&M was simply too composed at the free-throw line when it mattered most. Dozier, Pissis, and Abdur-Rahman each knocked down clutch foul shots, and a late turnover sealed the result.

Davis led all scorers and was the Bulldogs’ engine throughout, pushing the pace in transition, hitting timely threes, and taking over when the game was on the line. Abdur-Rahman and Dozier provided critical secondary scoring, while the Bulldogs’ defense came up with the stops they needed most in overtime.

For Texas Southern, Roberts and Wysinger combined for consistent perimeter contributions and Posey brought energy on both ends, but the Tigers couldn’t sustain their offensive momentum into the extra period.
