TST Adds Third $1 Million Competition With Launch of Mixed Tournament

The Soccer Tournament continues to push the boundaries of how the sport is presented in the United States, announcing the addition of a third $1 million competition with the launch of TST Mixed. Already home to separate seven-figure tournaments for men and women, TST will now introduce a co-ed field that brings both sides of the game onto the same pitch within a single match.

Set for May 27 through June 1 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, the Mixed competition will feature 16 teams made up of men and women rotating on and off the field throughout each game. Half of the available spots have already been claimed, reflecting strong early interest in the format and the continued momentum behind the tournament’s growth.

Former U.S. Women’s National Team goalkeeper Hope Solo is among the marquee names committed to the Mixed event, competing in addition to her return with Solo FC in the women’s tournament. Solo described the launch of TST Mixed as a meaningful step toward real equality in sport, calling the competition historic and applauding TST for taking a bold leap forward.

The Mixed field will also include Wrexham Red Dragons, continuing the club’s relationship with the tournament after participating in previous editions. Their entry is expected to be led by former Premier League and Wrexham striker Steven Fletcher alongside current Wrexham Women’s forward Rosie Hughes, further strengthening the international presence in Cary this summer.

TST Mixed introduces a format that mirrors the creativity the tournament has become known for. Matches will be played in four nine-minute quarters, with women competing in the first and third quarters and men taking the field in the second and fourth. Games will again be decided by Target Score Time™, the tournament’s signature ending that guarantees every match finishes on a goal rather than a clock.

Once regulation ends, teams chase a target score set one goal above the leading team’s total in an untimed final period. Every three minutes, a player from each team is removed from the field, shrinking the game until a winner is decided. In the Mixed competition, each stoppage also triggers a switch between men’s and women’s lineups, creating constant shifts in pace, strategy, and matchups as games move toward a finish.

Tournament CEO Jon Mugar said the decision to add a third competition was driven by demand from fans and teams, noting that TST Mixed will bring hundreds of additional athletes to Cary while giving supporters three separate million-dollar championships to follow. NBA star and TST co-owner Chris Paul echoed that sentiment, pointing to the Mixed format as another example of the tournament’s willingness to experiment and give fans something they have not seen before.

Now entering its fourth year in Cary, The Soccer Tournament has grown into a global event. The 2025 edition doubled the size of the women’s tournament to 16 teams and drew a record attendance of 51,730 fans. Nearly 2,000 players representing 34 countries have competed across the men’s and women’s fields, with past tournaments featuring a mix of elite athletes, entertainers, and clubs from around the world.

With the addition of TST Mixed, the tournament continues to position itself as one of the most unconventional and ambitious soccer events on the calendar, blending high stakes, global talent, and formats designed to keep every match alive until the final goal.
