A new statewide initiative is set to expand leadership development and career exploration opportunities for high school girls across Louisiana through sport.
So You Want a Career in Athletics (SYWACIA™) has partnered with the Louisiana High School Coaches Association to launch the Louisiana Girls in Sport Leadership Platform, a program focused on introducing young women to leadership pathways and careers within athletics.
The platform is designed to provide high school girls with access to experiential learning opportunities, exposure to careers in sport, and leadership focused programming. Through virtual engagement and educational resources, the initiative aims to create clearer pathways for girls interested in roles both on and off the field.
Dr. Kiki Baker Barnes, founder and executive director of SYWACIA™, and Jessica Barber, executive director of the Louisiana High School Coaches Association, are leading the effort as part of a broader collaboration between the two organizations.
To introduce the platform, SYWACIA™ and the Louisiana High School Coaches Association will host a virtual information session for students, families, and educators across the state.
The virtual session is scheduled for Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 7 p.m. CST. The event will be held online, with registration required. Interested participants can register at https://bit.ly/LHSCA-26.
Media opportunities connected to the initiative include interview availability with program leadership, advance access to program details and impact data, and coverage of the statewide effort centered on girls, leadership, and sport.
