The Atlanta Gladiators entered the night facing their third game in three nights and the second straight matchup against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. With wins already secured in the first two games of the stretch, Atlanta was looking to complete the three games in three nights with a perfect 3–0 record.
Rookie goaltender T.J. Semptimpheltergot the start in net for the Gladiators. Greenville’s John Parker was called for a penalty early, giving Atlanta its first power play opportunity of the night, but the Gladiators were unable to capitalize.
The opening period ended scoreless, with the Gladiators setting the tone defensively. Atlanta allowed just two shots on goal in the first period while generating 11 shots of their own, controlling play and keeping the Swamp Rabbits largely on the perimeter.
The Gladiators had another power play opportunity early in the second period and appeared to open the scoring, but after video review, the goal was overturned and the game remained scoreless. Atlanta broke through at the 9:25 mark when Louis Boudon scored in his third straight game, giving the Gladiators a 1–0 lead. Alex Young and Chad Nychuk earned the assists on the play.
The Gladiators continued to play strong defensively, successfully killing off a Greenville power play. Atlanta was able to convert on one of its power play opportunities through two periods and earned another late in the second that carried over into the third. The Gladiators went 1-for-4 on the power play heading into the final period, holding a 1–0 advantage at the second intermission.
The Gladiators struck early in the third period, converting on the power play at the 2:30 mark. Louis Boudon scored his second power play goal of the night and his 11th goal of the season, extending Atlanta’s lead to 2–0. Cody Sylvester and Chad Nychuk recorded the assists on the play.
Boudon wasn’t finished. At the 13:34 mark, he completed the hat trick with his third goal of the night, pushing the Gladiators’ lead to 3–0. GoaltenderSemptimphelter picked up the assist on the goal as Boudon continued to climb the league’s points leaderboard.
Atlanta earned another power play opportunity late in the third period but was unable to convert. Greenville finally broke through with four seconds remaining, but it was too little, too late, as the Gladiators secured a 3–1 victory. The Gladiators finished with seven power plays and 26 shots on goal.
The Gladiators now head into the holiday break before returning to the ice to face the Greenville Swamp Rabbits in Greenville on December 26.
