Gladiators Deliver on Fight Cancer Night with Gritty 4-2 Win Over Greenville

On a night dedicated to honoring survivors, fighters, and families impacted by cancer, the Atlanta Gladiators matched the emotion inside Gas South Arena with one of their most determined performances of the season. With energy high and physicality at a premium, Atlanta secured a 4-2 win over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, improving to 9-3 and continuing their early-season surge.

Fight Cancer Night brought a different kind of intensity to the building. From the opening puck drop, both teams leaned into a heavier, more aggressive style. Hits stacked up quickly, scrums followed nearly every whistle, and it was clear that neither side intended to back down.

Greenville struck first, taking a 1-0 lead on a late transition goal from Cam Hausinger at 17:33.

Atlanta flipped the momentum in the second period.

A looping deflection found its way behind the Greenville goaltender, allowing Mike McNamee to tie the game with help from Cody Sylvester. Less than a minute later, the crowd erupted as Joey Cipollone buried the go-ahead goal off a setup from Sylvester and Anthony Firriolo. Greenville managed to even the score before intermission, but the intensity inside the arena only climbed from there.

Early in the third, Atlanta took full control.

At 3:04, Ryan Nolan finished a clean counterattack created by McNamee and Alex Young to give the Gladiators a 3-2 lead. Moments later, Cipollone struck again, converting a sharp feed from Young to extend the advantage to 4-2 and send the home crowd into a full roar.

Ethan Haider made one of the defining plays of the night at 8:40, shutting down a one-on-one chance that could have shifted momentum. As emotions boiled over in the final minutes, Atlanta’s penalty kill stayed disciplined and handled every challenge.

The win capped off a meaningful evening in Duluth. The Gladiators played with purpose, matched the night’s emotion, and delivered a strong performance in front of a crowd united for a cause larger than the game itself.

Atlanta returns to action Sunday afternoon at home against the South Carolina Stingrays as they look to continue their push through the South Division.
