Caitlin Clark will not participate in the WNBA All-Star Game or the Three-Point Contest this weekend due to a right groin injury she suffered on Tuesday. She shared an emotional message with fans, stating, “I am incredibly sad and disappointed to say I can’t participate in the 3-point contest or the All-Star Game. I have to rest my body.”

What does this mean for the rest of All-Star Weekend?
According to a USA Today article published in June, league-wide viewership dropped by 55% during Clark’s absence earlier this season. Last year’s All-Star Game, which featured Clark, averaged 3,442,000 viewers — the highest audience in WNBA All-Star history. Much of that success was attributed to Clark and other rising stars.
This year, Clark will be replaced by Washington Mystics guard Brittney Sykes. Many are concerned that Clark’s absence could impact viewership for the weekend’s events.
This marks Caitlin’s fourth injury of the season. Earlier in the year, she missed time due to left quad tightness, a left quad strain, and a previous left groin injury. Her sophomore season has fallen short of expectations so far, hampered by injuries and shooting struggles. She’s currently shooting 36.7% from the field and just 27.9% from beyond the arc.
So what’s next for WNBA All-Star Weekend?
For those unsure about tuning in, here are five reasons it’s still worth watching:
1. Star-Studded Roster & Rising Talent
Even without Clark, the rosters are stacked with elite talent — including A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, Kelsey Plum, and Napheesa Collier. The level of competition and athleticism remains unmatched.
2. Innovative Game Format & Rules
This year’s game includes exciting new features: a 4-point shot zone, a 20-second shot clock, and fast-paced, hockey-style substitutions. These changes are designed to increase scoring and showcase player creativity.
3. Packed Fan Experiences in Indianapolis
All-Star Weekend is more than just a game — it’s a citywide celebration. Fans can enjoy skills challenges, live concerts, youth clinics, meet-and-greets, and fan festivals in one of the country’s most passionate basketball cities.
4. Spotlight on the Growth of Women’s Sports
Hosting the event in a basketball-rich city highlights how far the WNBA has come. The weekend is a celebration of investment, visibility, and momentum for women’s sports on a national scale.
5. Cultural Energy Beyond the Court
From athlete-led panels and podcasts to fan activations and community events, All-Star Weekend has become a cultural moment — bringing together sports, storytelling, and empowerment.
Caitlin Clark’s absence will be felt — by fans, the league, and her fellow players. But the WNBA All-Star Game remains a celebration of talent, innovation, and progress. This weekend is still a moment for fans to show up, tune in, and support the athletes who continue to elevate the game. Whether you’re a die-hard follower or new to the league, there’s still plenty to be excited about.
