SHREVEPORT, La. — The 2025 HBCU Athletic Conference (HBCU AC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships brought standout performances and history-making wins to Lee Hedges Stadium April 11–12, as teams battled for dominance and rising stars made their mark.

Voorhees University, a recent addition to the conference, captured its first men’s outdoor title with 217 points, ending Dillard University’s four-year championship streak. Led by sprinter Demarion Alexander, Voorhees dominated the sprint events. Alexander won both the 100 meters and 200 meters, and anchored the 4×100-meter relay team to a dramatic, come-from-behind victory over Dillard, clocking a season-best 41.11 seconds.

Talladega College secured second place with 160 points, bolstered by strong distance performances. Decquan Nisbett and Isiah Milet took first and second in the 1500 meters, with Milet running a personal best of 4:24.78. Dillard placed third overall with 116 points.

In the field events, Stillman College’s Christopher Johnson claimed victories in the shot put and discus, with a personal best of 15.17 meters in the shot put. He also placed fifth in the hammer throw. Johnson’s all-around dominance earned him the 2025 HBCUAC Most Valuable Field Athlete award. On the track, Dillard’s Markel Myles earned Most Valuable Track Athlete honors after winning both the 400-meter hurdles and 800-meter run.

On the women’s side, Dillard University continued its reign, claiming a fourth consecutive team title with a commanding 277 points—nearly doubling the score of second-place Talladega College (140 points). Wiley College rounded out the top three with 120 points.

Senior All-American, Kevell Byrd led the charge, finishing first in the 100m, 200m, and 400m, and anchoring both the 4×100 and 4×400-meter relays. Her dominant showing earned her the 2025 HBCUAC Most Valuable Track Athlete award again. Byrd will continue her academic and athletic career at Georgia State University as a graduate student.
