The Atlanta Gladiators closed out their final home game of the season with a meaningful 3-1 win over the Jacksonville Icemen on Saturday night, marking an emotional and energetic Fan Appreciation Night at Gas South Arena.
The night was extra special as the team honored beloved captain Eric Neiley with heartfelt tributes throughout the game. From touching video montages to roaring ovations, the Gladiators family came together to celebrate Neiley’s leadership, commitment, and the legacy he’s built with the organization. Emotions ran high as fans, players, and staff acknowledged the impact Neiley has had both on and off the ice.
Jacksonville opened the scoring early in the first period with a goal from Dalton Duhart, assisted by Liam Coughlin and Bennett MacArthur. But the Gladiators came alive in the second period. Joey Cipollone tied the game at 1-1 off assists from Zach Yoder and Easton Armstrong, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
Momentum stayed with Atlanta as Jordan Fracasa set up the go-ahead goal, giving the Gladiators a 2-1 lead. Shortly after, Tyler Drevitch found the back of the net, extending the advantage to 3-1.
Fans showed their appreciation all night, erupting into chants of “Let’s go Glad!” as the team held strong in the final minutes to seal the win. With the victory, the Gladiators improved to 28-31, with four road games remaining in the regular season.
In post-game interviews, Cody Sylvester and assistant coach Derek Nesbitt emphasized that although the team won’t be heading to the playoffs, the players are still focused on finishing strong. They spoke about the importance of playing with purpose, staying connected to their “why,” and keeping their motivation high to close out the season on a positive note.
Atlanta’s next game is set for April 9th on the road against the Florida Everblades, currently ranked second in the league. With grit and determination, the Gladiators still have the opportunity to end the season with a winning record.
