A’ja Wilson Ties WNBA Record With 33rd Player of the Week Honor

A’ja Wilson closed the regular season the way MVP candidates do. She averaged a league-best 27.8 points as the Las Vegas Aces went 4-0 coming out of the World Cup break, and earned Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Sept. 17–24.

The award is the 33rd of Wilson’s career. That ties Tina Charles for the most in WNBA history. Wilson already held the Western Conference record, and this is her fifth weekly honor of the 2026 season. Charles earned all 33 of hers in the East.

Over the week, Wilson averaged 27.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks. She shot 56.5% from the floor and 90.9% from the free throw line in just 31 minutes a night. She finished the season as the league’s 2026 Peak Performer at 26.2 points per game.

Sept. 17 at Seattle (W, 114-77): Wilson scored 29 points on 9-of-13 shooting and went a perfect 10-for-10 from the line. She added 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks.

Sept. 20 vs. Seattle (W, 98-77): Wilson posted game-highs of 30 points and 8 rebounds, with 4 assists, 3 steals and a block, as the Aces finished a season sweep of the Storm. She passed 1,000 points on the season and became the first player in WNBA history with multiple 1,000-point seasons. It was also her 12th 30-point game of the year.

Sept. 22 vs. Los Angeles (W, 89-79): Wilson recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds for her 19th double-double of the season. She added 2 assists and 2 blocks and moved up to No. 12 on the WNBA’s all-time field goals made list.

Sept. 24 at Phoenix (W, 100-82): Wilson closed the regular season with 34 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal. Her milestones from that night:

  • Her league-high 13th 30-point game of the season and the 50th of her career.
  • Her 20th double-double of 2026 and the 140th of her career, fifth-most in league history.
  • No. 10 all-time in field goals made (2,466).
  • No. 11 on the all-time scoring list (6,792) after starting the year at No. 21. She is 11 points from the top 10.
  • A tie for No. 43 on the league’s all-time wins list (216).

Up Next: The Aces open the WNBA quarterfinals against the No. 6 Indiana Fever on Sunday, Sept. 27, at Michelob ULTRA Arena. Tipoff is at 1 p.m. on ABC.

Two things to check against the original release before you post:

Steals. The game logs add up to 1.0 steals per game, not the 1.3 the release says. Either a steal is missing from one of the game recaps or the average is off.

Game dates. The release listed the games as Aug. 17–24, but the award covers Sept. 17–24 and Phoenix was the regular-season finale. I used September.
