A’ja Wilson Leads Las Vegas Aces Past Toronto Tempo, 93-73

The Las Vegas Aces defeated the Toronto Tempo 93-73 on Friday night at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, using a strong first half to take control of the game and maintaining their advantage through the final buzzer.

The game was played in front of a sellout crowd of 10,523 and lasted one hour and 51 minutes.

Las Vegas opened the game with a 27-17 first-quarter advantage. Jackie Young led the Aces with 12 points in the opening period, shooting 4-of-6 from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point range. A’ja Wilson added four points.

Toronto was led by Isabelle Harrison and Kiana Williams, who each scored five points in the first quarter. Harrison also grabbed three rebounds. The Tempo, however, committed 10 turnovers in the opening period.

The Aces continued to build their lead in the second quarter, outscoring Toronto 29-22. Wilson scored 14 points in the quarter, going 4-of-4 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. Young added five points, while Chelsea Gray scored four. Las Vegas shot 50 percent from the field and went 12-of-12 at the free-throw line in the quarter.

Toronto received five points from both Harrison and Juskaite in the second quarter. Rice added four points, while Nurse scored three.

The Aces entered halftime with a 56-39 lead. Wilson had 18 points through two quarters, while Young had 17. Harrison led Toronto with 10 points, and Williams had seven.

Las Vegas maintained its advantage in the third quarter, outscoring Toronto 18-16. The Aces took a 74-55 lead into the fourth quarter, with their largest lead reaching 21 points during the period.

Juskaite led the Tempo in the third quarter with nine points and four rebounds. Harrison scored three points, while Williams added three points.

Young scored six points for Las Vegas in the third quarter, while Wilson added four and Gray scored five. Young also recorded three assists during the period.

Toronto continued to battle in the fourth quarter, scoring 18 points, but Las Vegas added 19 to close out the 93-73 victory.

Wilson finished with a game-high 27 points and eight rebounds. She shot 10-of-17 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line, while also recording two assists, one steal and two blocks.

Young finished with 23 points, eight assists and four rebounds. She shot 6-of-13 from the field, including 4-of-9 from three-point range, and went 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Gray added 11 points and four assists. Cheyenne Parker-Tyus finished with nine points and seven rebounds, while Stephanie Talbot scored three points and grabbed four rebounds.

For Toronto, Harrison led the Tempo with 15 points and seven rebounds. Juskaite recorded 14 points and eight rebounds, while Nurse finished with 12 points. Rice and Williams each scored 10 points.

The Tempo finished 27-of-67 from the field for 40.3 percent and made 10-of-28 three-point attempts for 35.7 percent. Toronto shot 9-of-13 from the free-throw line.

The Aces shot 32-of-75 from the field for 42.7 percent and also made 10 three-pointers, going 10-of-33 from beyond the arc. Las Vegas was particularly efficient at the free-throw line, converting 19-of-21 attempts for 90.5 percent.

Las Vegas also finished with a significant advantage in turnovers, committing just seven compared with 17 for Toronto. The Aces recorded 20 assists to the Tempo’s 18 and finished with 38 total rebounds compared with Toronto’s 37.

The loss dropped Toronto to 11-28 on the season. The Tempo are 7-13 at home and 4-15 on the road, and the loss extended their overall losing streak to three games and their road losing streak to 10 games.

The victory moved Las Vegas to 27-13 on the season.
