Brayden Tyson Scores Three Touchdowns as Brookwood Defeats Cambridge 52-7

Brayden Tyson scored three touchdowns in the first quarter, rushing for 93 yards on 15 carries as Brookwood defeated Cambridge 52-7 on August 13 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Tyson accounted for all three of Brookwood’s touchdowns in the opening quarter, scoring on runs of 2, 8 and 5 yards. Brady Palma converted all three extra points.

Tyson’s first touchdown came with 8:11 remaining in the first quarter, putting Brookwood ahead 7-0. He scored again with 3:47 remaining to extend the lead to 14-0, then completed the three-touchdown opening quarter with a 5-yard touchdown run with 49 seconds remaining.

Brookwood finished the game with 359 total offensive yards, including 193 rushing yards and 166 passing yards. The Broncos recorded 14 first downs and averaged 8.0 yards per offensive play.

Tyson led Brookwood’s rushing attack with 93 yards on 15 carries, averaging 6.2 yards per carry. He finished with three rushing touchdowns and a long of 16 yards. He also finished with 93 all-purpose yards.

Gary Chatman contributed 50 rushing yards and a touchdown on five carries while completing 8 of 13 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns. His longest completion was 45 yards.

Michael Johnson added 42 rushing yards on four carries and a touchdown.

Brookwood continued its offensive production in the second quarter.

Johnson scored on a 34-yard touchdown run with 8:01 remaining in the quarter, with Palma converting the extra point to make it 28-0.

Chatman then connected with Zerien Walters for a 29-yard touchdown pass with 6:05 remaining. Palma’s extra point extended Brookwood’s lead to 35-0.

Chatman added a 31-yard rushing touchdown with 4:50 remaining in the quarter, giving Brookwood a 42-0 lead after another successful extra point.

Brookwood closed the first half with another touchdown when Chatman connected with Cobe Williams for a 25-yard touchdown pass with 25 seconds remaining. Palma converted the kick, sending Brookwood into halftime with a 49-0 lead.

Williams finished with three receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown. Zy’Aire Conaway had two receptions for 82 yards, including a long of 45 yards. Walters caught one pass for 29 yards and a touchdown.

Brookwood was held scoreless in the third quarter before Palma added a 45-yard field goal with 9:18 remaining in the fourth quarter. Palma’s field goal made the score 52-0.

Cambridge answered with 1:06 remaining when Marcus Turk scored on a 4-yard rushing touchdown. Brady Herndon converted the extra point, putting Cambridge on the board at 52-7.

Cambridge finished with 94 total offensive yards, including 26 rushing yards and 68 passing yards. The team recorded seven first downs.

Brookwood’s defense recorded three sacks for 36 yards, six tackles for loss totaling 39 yards and forced five three-and-outs. Cambridge recorded one sack and five tackles for loss.

Brookwood also held the advantage in time of possession, 20:30 to 27:30.

Tyson’s three-touchdown opening quarter established the tone for Brookwood, which scored 21 points in the first quarter and 28 in the second before adding three points in the fourth quarter.
