The Atlanta Dream will take the court Thursday night looking to add another win to their 2026 campaign when they visit the Connecticut Sun at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Atlanta enters the matchup with a 20-12 record, including an 8-7 mark on the road, while Connecticut is 8-23 overall and 3-14 at home. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. EDT and marks Atlanta’s 33rd regular-season game and 16th road game of the season.
The Dream currently sit fifth in the league standings at 20-12, while Connecticut is 14th at 8-23. Atlanta is also 10-4 against Eastern Conference opponents this season.
Atlanta enters Thursday’s game having won its last outing, a 107-95 victory over Toronto Tempo on Aug. 10. The Dream have also won two of their last three games, with victories over Phoenix and Toronto surrounding a loss to Washington.
Dream’s Backcourt Leads the Way
Jordin Canada continues to serve as the engine of Atlanta’s offense. The veteran guard is averaging 11.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game while leading the WNBA in assists. Canada has recorded seven games with at least 10 assists and has six double-doubles this season. She also recently surpassed the Dream’s single-season assists record of 227 and eclipsed 2,500 career points.
Allisha Gray is averaging 18.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. She has recorded 10 games with at least 20 points this season, including a season-high 29 points against Chicago on July 19. Gray also moved into fourth place on Atlanta’s all-time scoring list.
Rhyne Howard is averaging 17.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists while leading the league in total steals and steals per game. Howard has already made 100 three-pointers this season, reaching the mark on Aug. 10.
Howard also delivered one of her biggest performances of the season in Atlanta’s first meeting with Connecticut. On June 2, she scored a season-high 36 points and made eight three-pointers as the Dream defeated the Sun 91-75.
Reese Continues to Control the Glass
Angel Reese has been a major part of Atlanta’s success in her first season with the Dream. She is averaging 15.8 points and 11.9 rebounds per game and has recorded 22 double-doubles this season. Reese has also established the Dream’s single-season franchise record for double-doubles.
Naz Hillmon is averaging 9.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. She recorded a career-high 24 points on a perfect 8-for-8 shooting performance against Toronto on July 17 and added 18 points against Seattle on July 31.
Connecticut Coming Off a Win
The Sun enter Thursday’s matchup after defeating the Phoenix Mercury 75-72 on Aug. 7 at Mohegan Sun Arena. Connecticut rallied from an early double-digit deficit and took control late in the game.
Kennedy Burke led the Sun with 15 points off the bench, while Aaliyah Edwards added 14 points and eight rebounds. Connecticut’s bench outscored Phoenix’s reserves 39-9, while the Sun also held advantages in three-point shooting, rebounding and blocked shots.
Connecticut is looking to snap a four-game losing streak against Atlanta as well as a two-game home losing streak against the Dream.
Brittney Griner is listed as questionable with a left knee injury. She is averaging 13.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Leïla Lacan is averaging 12.1 points and 4.5 assists, while Olivia Nelson-Ododa is averaging 9.7 points and 6.0 rebounds.
A Rematch of June 2
Atlanta won the first meeting between the teams 91-75 on June 2 at Gateway Center Arena. Connecticut held a narrow first-quarter lead and remained competitive through three quarters before Atlanta took control in the fourth, outscoring the Sun 23-10. Howard’s shooting from beyond the arc powered the Dream’s late run.
For the season, Atlanta is averaging 89.6 points per game compared with Connecticut’s 79.8. The Dream are also averaging 35.0 rebounds and 20.9 assists per game, compared with 32.9 rebounds and 19.3 assists for the Sun.
With Atlanta looking to strengthen its position near the top of the Eastern Conference and Connecticut trying to build on its latest victory, Thursday night’s matchup provides the Sun another opportunity to challenge the Dream while Atlanta looks to extend its advantage in the season series.
