Swarm Dominate Bandits 17-10 in Statement Playoff Win

The Georgia Swarm stepped into a high-stakes quarterfinal matchup against the Buffalo Bandits, widely regarded as one of the premier franchises in National Lacrosse League history. It marked the Swarm’s first home playoff game since 2019, with a roster featuring several young players experiencing postseason action for the first time. In a single-game elimination format, the margin for error was nonexistent.

The Swarm wasted no time setting the tone. Just under a minute into the opening period, Lyle Thompson found the back of the net to ignite the home crowd. Kaleb Benedict followed with two goals of his own, helping the Swarm build a 3-1 lead by the end of the first quarter.

The second period turned into an offensive showcase, with both teams combining for 10 goals. Rookie Nolan Byrne delivered a breakout performance, scoring three goals, including two on the power play. Thompson shifted into facilitator mode, recording three assists in the quarter, while Shayne Jackson added two goals. Just as important, the Swarm maintained discipline, committing zero penalties in the first half. By halftime, the Swarm held a commanding 9-5 advantage.

Coming out of the break, the Swarm tightened up defensively and allowed just one goal in the third period. Thompson struck again within the first 90 seconds, pushing the lead to double digits. With contributions across the roster, the Swarm extended its lead to 12-6 heading into the final frame.

The fourth period mirrored the second with a flurry of scoring, but the Swarm never relinquished control. Thompson once again opened the quarter with an early goal, setting the pace. The Swarm added three more goals within the first four minutes, effectively putting the game out of reach. Ian MacKay scored the Bandits’ lone power play goal of the night at the 10:08 mark and added another shortly after, but it wasn’t enough to shift momentum. Both teams traded late goals before the final whistle.

The Swarm secured a decisive 17-10 victory, advancing to the semifinals where they will face the Halifax Thunderbirds in a best-of-three series. Halifax earned its spot by defeating the top-seeded Vancouver Warriors on April 24.

The Swarm will return home to host Game 1 of the semifinal series on May 2 at Gas South Arena, with momentum firmly on its side.
