Power Play Efficiency Lifts Gladiators Past Icemen in Rivalry Battle

After a long road trip through Utah, the Atlanta Gladiators returned home to Gas South Arena for a rivalry matchup against the Jacksonville Icemen, stepping onto the ice in their Marvel themed jerseys and ready for battle. The Gladiators set the tone early, killing off a tripping penalty on Joey Cipollone and immediately settling into the game. At the 6:25 mark of the first period, Atlanta struck first when Louis Boudon netted his eighth goal of the season, with assists from Isak Walther and Chad Nychuk. The goal marked Boudon’s 26th point of the year, as he entered the night ranked seventh in league scoring. The momentum continued late in the period, as the Gladiators capitalized on a power play at 14:10, with Walther scoring his 12th goal of the season off assists from Boudon and Cody Sylvester. Jacksonville responded before the horn, silencing the crowd momentarily when Matteo Costantini scored with help from Taos Jordan and Bennett MacArthur. Despite a low shot total in the opening frame—eight for Jacksonville and six for Atlanta—the Gladiators made the most of their opportunities, converting on 30 percent of their shots and carrying a 2–1 lead into the first intermission.

The Gladiators continued to make their special teams count in the second period, striking once again on the power play. Ryan Nolan extended Atlanta’s lead at the 8:08 mark, scoring his eighth goal of the season with assists from Ryan Francis and Jack Matier. The goal pushed the Gladiators ahead 3–1 and further highlighted their efficiency despite limited offensive volume. Much like the opening period, the second frame featured a tight defensive battle, with both teams recording just seven shots on goal. By the time the horn sounded for the second intermission, Atlanta had totaled only 13 shots through 40 minutes but remained firmly in control, carrying a two-goal advantage into the final period.

The third period opened with the expected intensity, as a brief scuffle underscored the physical nature of a rivalry that rarely lacks emotion. Jacksonville pushed to close the gap and cut the deficit to one at the 15:11 mark when Christopher Brown found the net, assisted by Taos Jordan. Despite the late pressure, the Icemen were unable to find the equalizer, and the Gladiators held on to secure a 3–2 victory, improving to 17–6 on the season.

Atlanta now turns its attention to another heated rivalry, heading into a three-game series against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. The stretch begins with a back-to-back, opening on the road in Greenville tomorrow night before the Gladiators return home to Gas South Arena on December 21.
