The 6A Lowndes High School Vikings open their season at home against the Jenkins Warriors out of Savannah, Georgia, for Elementary Night at Martin Stadium. This is a rematch of last year’s season opener, which Lowndes won convincingly, 49-7.

The Vikings enter the matchup following a tough scrimmage loss to Thomas County Central on August 1, where the defense struggled to contain running back Christian Lawrence. Lawrence finished with 187 yards on the ground, including a 72-yard touchdown. Since then, Lowndes has had two weeks to regroup and prepare for a Jenkins squad that finished 9-3 last season and placed second in its Class AAA region.
Lowndes is coming off a bounce back 2024 season, posting a 10-2 record in head coach Adam Carter’s second year. The team returns junior quarterback Jayce Johnson, a recent Texas A&M commit, who is expected to lead the offense and continue the program’s championship tradition. Johnson also has a 6’2” senior target in Gavin Yates-Lyons, a presence that could make this season even more exciting for the Vikings’ passing attack.
With an experienced quarterback, a program trending upward, and an opportunity to open strong at home, Lowndes has a chance to set the tone early and build momentum toward another playoff run.
