Thunder Take Commanding 3-2 Lead as Pacers Struggle in Game 5

For the first time in the 2025 postseason, the Indiana Pacers are facing a series deficit.

After holding a 2–1 series lead, the Pacers have now dropped back-to-back games to the surging Oklahoma City Thunder, who are one win away from their first NBA championship since 1979—when the franchise was still known as the Seattle SuperSonics.

Game 5 belonged to OKC, powered by a career night from Jalen Williams. The third-year forward erupted for 40 points, setting the tone on both ends of the floor. League MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added a dominant 31-point, 10-assist double-double, leading a Thunder squad that continues to outwork Indiana in nearly every phase of the game.

Despite trailing for most of the night, the Pacers made a push in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to two. But turnovers and injuries proved too much to overcome.

Pacers All-Star Tyrese Haliburton struggled throughout the night, managing just 4 points before briefly exiting with a leg injury. He never found a rhythm, and his absence was felt as Indiana’s offense faltered under pressure. Head coach Rick Carlisle was issued a technical foul early in the game, a sign of growing frustration on the Pacers’ sideline.

Pascal Siakam did his part to keep Indiana afloat, finishing with 28 points on an efficient 9-of-15 shooting. Backup guard T.J. McConnell added 18 off the bench, giving the Pacers a much-needed spark. But it wasn’t enough.

The Thunder’s dominance in the hustle stats told the story: 22 forced turnovers, 12 blocks, and 15 steals. Indiana simply couldn’t match OKC’s energy or execution down the stretch.

The series now returns to Indianapolis for a critical Game 6 on Thursday night. With their season on the line, the Pacers will have to regroup quickly and protect their home court to force a Game 7.

Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
